For me, prayer is the lifeline between me and God. It is primarily relationship. Hanging out with Jesus; talking to him and listening for that inner voice and praising and thanking him. I have found that if I use prayer only to receive from God it will eventually turn to begging or complaining or even anger. I will eventually quit.
So, what is the answer? Jesus has already provided everything we would ever need. It’s a done deal. So, what promise are you standing on? Prayer without a promise is simply a naked prayer. I stand on the promise until it manifests. When I need something from the Lord, I start praising him, and then I take the promise which I have meditated on and hid in my heart, and I speak it out. I thank God for it. I don’t ask again. I keep thanking him for doing it. I keep enforcing the promise. I rebuke the enemy. How long do I do this? Until I see it! Hebrews 11:1 says “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
Some people see this as bossing God around. Why would God give us these promises if he didn’t want us to stand on them? He loves faith. He loves it when his kids are bold. We can’t please him without faith. Start with something small and believe God for bigger things as your faith and confidence level grows. I started doing this on myself in the area of divine healing with a cyst, then eventually moved onto migraine headaches and pain, and eventually even greater things.
Remember the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. I used to use the prayer only approach and got very little results. Now I mediate on the promises as outlined above, and it works all the time.” I am not saying these things to boast but to encourage you. If I can do, you can to. God is no respecter of persons!!!!!
Another nugget of truth, if you are struggling, pray this as the man who brought his son for healing did: “Lord I belief, help my unbelief.” I have started doing this lately when I do struggle and God has helped me every time. Remember what happened to the man’s son. He was healed; which means Jesus did help strengthen his faith. Just remember when you need something from God:
“No more naked prayers, just take him at his WORD!
