Today there are so many artists and such a variety of styles. We have several members of a Country Christian Group called “The Red-Letter Band” that are in my church. They love the Lord and have a heart for ministry. They are anointed and very talented.
I am no expert in music. I sang in choir in junior high and senior high and college. I did write about 40 songs in six months. This is explained in my Testimony Video: Ten Years in Hell. I had been through testing by professionals and they conclude that I had no creative abilities. I was a flat-liner. They were right, I didn’t take any chances. I was OCD to the max. When I got super sick, I knew I had to do something to get my mind off the pain. I had this thought. I’ll write songs. The first one I wrote was called “Christian Gangsta. I am not a fan of rap, but it was popular, and I thought I would give it ago. I tried every style I think known to mankind. The first songs were terrible. I kept at this and asked God to help me. I sent them to several Record Publishers and one of them told me that “I had song writing talent. That is all I needed to hear. God has given me talent, and it was game on. I still write songs occasionally. This song writing gift God took and transferred it into my teaching gift. I give him all the Glory!
There are a lot of talented and anointed singers and song-writers today. I shared a blog recently about Marty Goetz and his family. My dad saw them on a Christian television program and ordered the CD and the DVD for me. Marty is Jewish and a Christian. He and his family have amazing voices and musical talent. That alone only goes so far. To impact people’s lives for the Lord there must be an anointing on them and their gift. They are very anointed.
But I was thinking about their music and I thought to myself there is something different about their music. It’s like it has an additional quality. Then today it hit me. I should have realized this a long time ago. God has opened my eyes to the fact that you need to mix the promises of his Word with prayer. I wrote a blog some time ago called “No more Naked Prayers.” I am not talking about our praise and worship time with the Lord at home and about. If you don’t have a promise when you are praying for something specific you don’t have an anchored foundation to stand on. Your own weak self or the devil will take you down without a promise.
So, let me go back to 40 years ago. There were songs called Maranatha Songs and Praise Songs. Many of these songs took Scrlptures and put them to music. Today, we have something similar in Hillsongs. I am not saying that you have to have only scripture songs to be blessed. I am blessed by many songs that aren’t scripture songs as I am sure you are!
I do however believe these songs contain an extra anointing on them. Again, there must be a gift (a talent there-writing/singing/playing), as well as there must be an anointing on it. But these songs contain that Extra factor; the extra anointing of God’s Word-especially his Promises.
2 Peter 1:3-4 (ESV)
3 His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence,
4 by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.
The songs that I am recommending are all found on YouTube for you to check out. They can be purchased on Amazon Music. I mentioned in a previous blog the song “Prince of Peace” by Marty Goetz. This song doesn’t give me peace; it gives me joy and a lot of it.
Marty is producing a CD with his daughter Misha. I was not familiar with Misha. The DVD and CD that I got from my dad was about 25 years old and Misha was a baby in her mother’s arms on the DVD. Now she is a grown woman with a child of her own. I am going to challenge you to listen to a song by Marty and Misha. I already mentioned Marty’s song “Prince of Peace,” There are two duets by Marty and Misha that are beyond amazing. I had heard the song “We being many “. There is another song, that is’ I don’t have words for it. Frequently at the end of our services Pastor Pete or Pastor Mike will say a blessing “May the Lord Keep you and bless you” this is not only a blessing but a promise. Maybe your pastor does the same thing. I am sure that you probably have heard someone do it. If you want to hear a beyond-beautiful duet with Marty and Misha, then listen to this song. It is called the Aaronic Benediction. If you need peace this song will give you this. You will have to listen to it for yourself to see what I mean. If my Spirit was troubled, I would listen to this song. This may sound silly to you, but if I want to soften my heart anytime, I can put on the song “Prince of Peace by Marty and the tears start rolling. It has that effect on me.
I let my two granddaughters Samantha and Marisa (ages 12 and 11) listen to her song. “For You are Good.” They loved it. I really like the song. I am age 59. She is a Godly young woman who is anointed. I highly recommend her ministry. Whether she is singing a duet with her dad and a song by herself; she is a breath of fresh air.
So, if you need or want a Christian song with something extra in it; I believe these Scripture Songs fit that bill.
