IF YOU CAN BELIEVE ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE-
WHAT IN THE WORLD DOES THAT MEAN?
If you can Believe All Things are Possible to him who believes
Matthew 17:14-21 (KJV)
14 And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying,
15 Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water.
16 And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.
17 Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.
18 And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.
19 Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?
20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
21 Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.
1. So, what is the problem?-Why is today’s church so powerless when you line it up with the 1st Century church found in the Book of Acts?
Here are the reasons people would give:
· I just don’t have enough faith
If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
You have enough Faith to Move a Mountain
That is very good news
· Some people are given great faith to believe and I am not one of them
Romans 12:3 (KJV)
3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
Everyone has been given THE Measure of Faith
So, we all have enough faith to get the job done-to move mountains.
· Well that was Jesus
John 14:12 (ESV)
12 “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.
Jesus said we could and are supposed to do the same things he did.
So, take that excuse off the list
· If Jesus was here, he would take care of the problem?
He has already taken care of the problem and transferred the authority and power to you.
Mark 16:15-18 (ESV)
15 And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.
16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.
17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues;
18 they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
As soon as he commissioned us, he gave us authority and power to do his will in Jesus name
· My prayers just don’t seem to get above the ceiling.
They don’t have to because the Holy Spirit is right inside of you. You have power. So, you don’t have to get your prayers to heaven you just have to get them to your belly. That is where God resides inside of you in the person of the Holy Spirit and how can God not hear you?
John 14:16-17 (ESV)
16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever,
17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.
2. So What is the answer
· Some can believe instantly
Mark 5:24-34 (ESV)
24 And he went with him. And a great crowd followed him and thronged about him.
25 And there was a woman who had had a discharge of blood for twelve years,
26 and who had suffered much under many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was no better but rather grew worse.
27 She had heard the reports about Jesus and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his garment.
28 For she said, “If I touch even his garments, I will be made well.”
29 And immediately the flow of blood dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease.
30 And Jesus, perceiving in himself that power had gone out from him, immediately turned about in the crowd and said, “Who touched my garments?”
31 And his disciples said to him, “You see the crowd pressing around you, and yet you say, ‘Who touched me?’”
32 And he looked around to see who had done it.
33 But the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came in fear and trembling and fell down before him and told him the whole truth.
34 And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.”
The Woman with the Issue of Blood was ready. She had built up her faith. She went to Jesus believing. She knew if she even just touched him, she would be healed.
· And some must renew their minds
21 Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.
Why is Prayer and Fasting effective?
· Intimate prayer can develop a strong trusting relationship with the Lord.
· Fasting is a discipline: the idea is if you can control; discipline (by going without food) your body then you will be able to control your mind and soul
· Remember it is not talking about a super demon. The understood subject is unbelief. You must dump the doubt out.
· is not about building faith but subtracting unbelief so that the mustard seed will work
Romans 10:17 (KJV)
17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Psalm 119:11 (ESV)
11 I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
Romans 10:9 (ESV)
9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
· Faith comes by hearing and the verb is continuous-which means to hear over and over and hearing the hearing the Word of God- If you can believe
How do you do that?
Romans 12:1-2 (ESV)
1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.
2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
So, if you are trying to believe God for a miracle let’s say healing for instance. The old expression still applies “It at first you don’t success try try again.” If you are ready you will pop like microwave popcorn-as the Woman with the Issue of Blood did. If you are not you may need some heat to get that popcorn to get ready to pop. Get the Word from your head to your heart and just keep at it; it will happen.
