JUST BRING YOUR MIXING SPOON-GODS GOT ALL OF THE RIGHT INGREDIENTS
Hebrews 4:1-16 (ESV)
1 Therefore, while the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us fear lest any of you should seem to have failed to reach it.
2 For good news came to us just as to them, but the message they heard did not benefit them, because they were not united by faith (KJV SAYS MIXED WITH FAITH) with those who listened.
3 For we who have believed enter that rest, as he has said, “As I swore in my wrath, ‘They shall not enter my rest,’” although his works were finished from the foundation of the world.
4 For he has somewhere spoken of the seventh day in this way: “And God rested on the seventh day from all his works.”
5 And again in this passage he said, “They shall not enter my rest.”
6 Since therefore it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly received the good news failed to enter because of disobedience,
7 again he appoints a certain day, “Today,” saying through David so long afterward, in the words already quoted, “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.”
8 For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken of another day later on.
9 So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God,
10 for whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from his.
11 Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience.
12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
13 And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
14 Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.
15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.
16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
1. Must be mixed with faith or there is no benefit
2 For good news came to us just as to them, but the message they heard did not benefit them, because they were not united by faith (KJV SAYS MIXED WITH FAITH) with those who listened.
· You must take the promise of God yourself and mix it up with God-given faith or it will just stay on the page
· Do you want to get the promise off the page and see it in action? Then you must mix it with faith. From your head to your heart.
2. To Enter the rest, you must believe
3 For we who have believed enter that rest,
· Rest means you quit asking or doubting and start believing. If God said it then you must just believe with child-like faith.
· Remember in Hebrews Chapter 11, The Heroes of Faith and how they believed against all odds. Let’s read about them.
Hebrews 11:32-40 (ESV)
32 And what more shall I say? For time would fail me to tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets--
33 who through faith conquered kingdoms, enforced justice, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,
34 quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, were made strong out of weakness, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight.
35 Women received back their dead by resurrection. Some were tortured, refusing to accept release, so that they might rise again to a better life.
36 Others suffered mocking and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment.
37 They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were killed with the sword. They went about in skins of sheep and goats, destitute, afflicted, mistreated--
38 of whom the world was not worthy—wandering about in deserts and mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.
39 And all these, though commended through their faith, did not receive what was promised,
40 since God had provided something better for us, that apart from us they should not be made perfect.
3. If you hear what I am saying and believe it don’t push it away but embrace it
7 “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.”
· There is a tendency for us to get all excited about something as human beings and then forget about it shortly instead of acting upon it and putting it into action
4. You must rest (stop praying and start believing and resting (be confident in it).
10 for whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from his.
· You must flip from the I’m trying to get it to I got this! It’s mine!
5. Strive to Rest (How Ironic but True)
11 Let us therefore strive to enter that rest,
· Striving and resting sound like opposite sides of a coin. But in this case, they work together.
· It takes effort to come to a point of trust and peace on our side of the ledger. God is always there.
6. He gets it/He’s Been there/He understands what we are going through!
15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.
· He came to this earth and became a man. He understands all our hurts/pains/temptations, etc.
7. One of my favorite Promises and I use it all the time:
It’s about how to get mercy and grace from the throne
16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
· If you are double-minded or afraid this won’t work. Focus on how much God loves you and what he has done for you. He sent his son to die for you. Will he not freely give you all things. He will!
· Come with confidence and you will receive mercy(which is not getting what you deserve) and grace (getting what you don’t deserve)
· So, reach out to him tonight if you need either mercy or grace. He loves faith and he loves you
· Come boldly to his throne. He is waiting there for you.
· Remember he has all the right ingredients for you all you need is a mixing spoon to stir them up.
· He will even provide that; but you must do the stirring
1 Therefore, while the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us fear lest any of you should seem to have failed to reach it.
